Filmore and Third

Haven't done a tribute piece like this in a while, but am returning to several artworks like it.
Recently binged dozens of episode of Filmore that found their way on Youtube, and was struck by how compelling the series actually is. With so much attention to detail and tone when it comes to the cop show tropes, the show either represents the tropes exactly, or through kid-friendly analogues. Like sugar in place of cocaine. Or bootleg comics in place of other contraband. Detention in place of jail or even juvinille-hall. The funniest part is when you realize that the principal is a stand-in for a city mayor, and the Safety patrol is the local cops and detectives, yet you barely see these glorified hall monitors actually learning in class. Even Filmore's parents treat his work at school like an adult job with real stakes. It's presentation is genuinely that good.

So I had to make some art about it.

This is one of those compositions that benefits most from a 3D reference, as the distorted lens and extreme poses would be very hard to work out without one.

An initial idea in the sketch was to have a rope ladder and slide portion of the swing-set off to the right. But I think I realized that this would distract from how airborne I wanted Ingrid to feel, so I changed it to a standalone swing.

With the swing simplified, now there's more negative space, behind which we can see a jungle gym, and a larger portion of open sky and clouds.
