Jenny The Robo Girl

"My Life as a Teenage Robot" is a show that I fondly remember watching during my tween years, alongside Kim Possible, Teen Titans, and Avatar the Last Airbender. It's also a show I am thankful made its way to DVD, while so many other cartoons from the early 00's are still stuck on network archives. Jenny Wakeman, otherwise known as XJ-9 is a popular subject of fan-art and has an extremely passionate fanbase. Her super-hero meets teen drama story of wanting to build a normal human life for herself always endeared Jenny to me, and makes her a subject full of artistic possibilities. I've also enjoyed a variety of portraits of Jenny by many other artists, but wanted to try my hand at translating her design into a more proportionately accurate figure. In my typical fashion, I've added details where effective, attempted a polished metallic texture, and tried to come up with a sensible way that her limbs would bend and turn.

Final artwork, featuring a background sky inspired by the style of the original cartoon, color dodge effects on the jets, and an attempt at simulated metal surfaces.

Extrapolating a simplified cartoon character into a more realistic human body-type is always tricky. Many other artists have attempted it, but I aimed for something straight-forward, and a little taller than typical.
