Out of all the projects I have undertaken, painting window murals has been one of the most unique, most daunting, and most special. Once I was hired on as a floor staff member of my local multi-plex movie theater, I expressed great interest to my bosses about painting their next mural that would go on their upper window. The window is roughly 7.5 feet tall, by 26 feet wide, and consists of 16 panels, half of which vary in size.
When I began designing these murals, and then subsequently painting them onto the window glass, I had never seen how the process of physical enlargement was done on professional projects, but I quickly figured out how. It took time to create a near-accurate Photoshop blueprint for the window panes, within which I could design my painting(s). After which it was simply a matter of creating a grid on the image file, and a grid out of string upon the windows, which I would use to transfer each 12inch square region of the painting to the glass.
