Without question, 'My Life as a Teenage Robot' is still one of my favorite cartoons of all time. I like its artstyle, I like its tone, and I love its characters and their voices. Out of other teen focused cartoons at the time, I also think it has some of the better examples of teen drama on television, just under that of Kim Possible from its later seasons. Still fairly shallow due to its episodic nature, but there's certainly room for the concept to get a boost from a reinterpretation or revival of some sort. So that's what I was exploring here.
I enjoy expanding upon simple designs, so I really dug into details for Jenny's joints and panels. Other artists well before my time have done much the same, so I wanted my expansion on her details to be somewhere in the middle of the extremes. We won't show every little bolt and rivet, but we also won't leave out details that seem structurally necessary. I also took pains to recreate the stylized art-deco backgrounds the show would use for reactionary shots.
