COMMISSION - The Weaselette

My second commission for MrPr1993 features another character from his videogame, "Shaundi's World," The Weaselette: the first area boss. She's Jessica Rabbit gone bad, essentially, so I wanted to capture that vibe as much as possible here, even beyond what MrPr had done in his own concept sketches.

Once again, I chose to create the background for this piece using Aseprite, but instead of a single repeating pattern, I build the whole stage set from scratch. Pixel art is entirely new to me, but I think I came out alright for my 2nd only try.

For the initial foundation, I almost always start with a DesignDoll model, and then build the rough sketch around that. In the end, though, the final drawing is always an amplification, with proportions and angles adjusted well beyond the base model.

I can't say I've drawn characters with props too often before, so getting this exact pose was nice to see come together as it did, and I'm glad to see that it feels like it all has the right weight and balance.

I wasn't quite sure at this stage whether to have the pixel background appear inside the background outlines, or the create a fully pixel-art background that replaced the outlines. So I ended up trying both out. The fully pixel-art version won the contest
