You're Busted - Vanessa and Candice

Sometimes I don't exactly know why I have a sudden surge of inspiration to make a picture like this, but I did. I'm guess it's because at the time, I was putting this song on repeat and couldn't get over how awesome it was. Strange how I have yet to do that with other songs, but, there ya go.

While I can't show the initial mock-up for this piece, you could consider this almost a paint-over, as the mock-up used cropped images from the actual "Busted" music video as a compositional foundation. I wanted something with depth and visual complexity.

This particular piece had several layers to it, so I had to sketch them in succession. We start with the two enlarged heads of Candice and Venessa. Candice's neck actually elongates in her next portrait, so proportions were a bit off, XD.

Then we have the central medium portraits, slight foreshortening on their outstretched pointing hands.

And then we bring in their two sets of dancing mini-doubles.

As you can see between the last sketch, this inked version, and the final, I wasn't quite sure how to align the dancing figures, or how to represented the word "Busted." I later chose to use police tape, and to keep the dancers slightly elevated.
