Scale & Bone - KINDRA Initial Designs

Scale & Bone - Preproduction
Kindra, the lead character of my next film, finally takes on life as a fully rendered character. The actress that will one day play her will undoubtedly have her own look and likely hairdo that will differ from any designs I create during the conceptual stage, but in order to create an iconic consistency within the pre-production art, I feel it's important for me to establish a look for her that can be recognized as being part of this project.

Kindra's armor, which she will wear during the short film, is being designed separately, as it requires individual attention to look and lay just right. In terms of these portraits, Kindra is the first black character I have ever created, so deciding on the best way to capture her features has been tricky, but not unsuccessful. I think the aspect I'm most proud of is her afro, while the part that needs the most attention and refinement is her expressiveness. Future artworks will feature more energy and personality.
